Watford vs Tottenham – Premier League : Watford is one of the surprise teams of the season by getting 21 points on the 14 matches played so far…
The 8th place they currently sit on, leaves the only 3 points behind their opponent this round, Tottenham, team that finished in 2nd place of the Premier League last season.
This is a fearless team, led by Marco Silva, that doesn’t have any problems to look for score, and the proof of that, is the numbers of this club,
because they have a total of 24 goals scored (6th best on the competition) and 25 goals conceded (16th) which makes us think about the Hornets’ offensive approach.
But if we look closely, we can find a seemingly scary statistic: 18 of their team’s conceded goals were on the matches against teams that are above them on the league table, including 4 matches that finished with Over 5.5 goals and only 1 that finished with Over 2.5 Goals
Against 1st place – Over 5.5 Goals: Watford 0-6 Manchester City
Against 2nd place – Over 5.5 Goals: Watford 2-4 Manchester United
Against 3rd place – Over 5.5 Goals: Chelsea 4-2 Watford
Against 4th place – Over 2.5 Goals: Watford 2-1 Arsenal
Against 5th place – Over 5.5 Goals: Watford 3-3 Liverpool
Now they will face the Spurs who are on a terrible moment of form and are forced to win. Despite facing here one of the best defences of this competition,
the Hornets have already shown they can score against big teams as we can see on the results above and every time they did it, they scored more than once.
Manchester City was the only one to keep a clean sheet out of those 5 teams, with Brighton and Stoke City being the other two to accomplish that with a 0-0 result for Brighton and a 1-0 for Stoke, respectively.
Will Hughes, Isaac Success, Craig Cathcart, Younes Kaboul, Tommie Hoban and Nathaniel Chalobah are confirmed absences for Marco Silva going into this match, while Miguel Britos is still doubtful.
Quote from: Kiko Femenia, Watford’s Right Wing Back
“We clearly know the importance of this match and the dimension of our opponents.
It will be a very complicated match, but we have to approach it with the right mentality, doing what we know, and if we do it with that attitude
I think we’ll be able to stop them and get some points here.”
Tottenham are favourites due to the difference in terms of rosters and in the clubs’ own dimensions, but the Spurs are clearly going through a negative period.
Playing in the Champions League with such a short roster didn’t prove to be an easy task and despite sitting in first place of a group with Real Madrid, the fatigue recently started to show itself.
On their last 8 matches in all competitions, they only have 3 victories, with only 1 of them being on the Premier League, and with the team only scoring 3 goals on their last 5 league matches.
A loss to the Londoner rivals Arsenal by 2-0, a 2-2 draw with the 17th place West Bromwich and a 2-1 loss on the last round against Leicester has dropped the players’ confidence levels.
Visiting Vicarage Road 3 days before a Champions’ League match isn’t the ideal time, but since they have already ensured their presence in the round of 16, it ends up not being that bad.
We should expect a strong given by Mauricio Pochettino to this match, but he won’t be able to count with Toby Alderweireld and Victor Wanyama who are injured until the end of 2017.
They are the 5th best defence of the competition with just 12 goals conceded in all matches, but away from home they have 3 of the 4 losses they had this season.
Quote from: Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham’s manager
“It is true that we struggled against Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion and that our performance against Leicester wasn’t the best.
Sometimes we need to be more effective or to have some luck to win a match.
We are on a period where we need to change the team’s dynamic and start to build the team’s momentum once again. This is a good chance to start against Watford.
We have to be calm and not to rush decisions based on emotion. It is important to be assertive on the way I evaluate the team and analyse why we dropped points on the last matches.”
Watford vs Tottenham – Betting Tip and Prediction:
Two teams coming off losses and with different qualities, but this is the best time for Watford to face Tottenham and not the opposite. Watford’s mentality generates a lot of goals and ends up hurting them defensively.
Against a Tottenham, who is one of the best defences, the effectiveness will have to be on point, but considering Spurs’ need to win, I believe we will have an open match.
The high number of goals of both teams makes me approach this market and the Hornets’ ability to break even the best defences gives me even more confidence.
