Vitória de Setúbal vs Belenenses – Liga NOS: After losing in the final of the Taça CTT and becoming Winter’s vice-champions.
The hosts now return to the only competition that they are still participating on, the domestic league, with the mission of starting to think about leaving the relegation zone.
Their last win was on October 21st of last year, when they’ve beaten Marítimo at home by 3-1. From then on and regarding the last few matches in specific, they were always able to get points, which means, they’ve gotten 5 draws.
I should highlight the fact that one of those draws was against Sporting, on the conversion of a penalty, already in the final minutes.
Recently, and thanks to Gonçalo Paciência’s great moment of form, the team led by Couceiro has been able to maintain the hope of achieving their desired objective, which is avoiding relegation from the top Portuguese tier.
But due to his goals and contribution to the team, FC Porto has asked for him to return home from his loan, so that Sérgio Conceição’s team can count with another attacking option.
And in my opinion, that means that Couceiro has lost the most influent player of the team, on the position where he was lacking the most, the striker position.
Belenenses, with their new manager, Silas, in charge, has been playing very well, and despite not having won any matches yet, the style he is trying to impose and the way the players adopted the new manager’s orders are clearly visible.
The blues from Restelo have 1 loss and 4 draws in 5 matches and with Silas’ arrival one thing was quickly noticeable,
which was his caution to maintain a defence on the lookout and that didn’t push so far up the field, like it happened with their previous manager Domingos Paciência,
where the team attacked as a block and was caught off-guard a lot of times, because of the defenders that
pushed up the field to support the attack. Despite the 2 draws, in Madeira against Marítimo,
that draw had a bitter taste, since the best opportunities were created by Belenenses, who have hit the post twice.
Just like the excellent display they’ve had on the match against the champions Benfica, where everyone thought that might be Silas’ first victory, but then Benfica drew on the final minutes,
in another match where they were able to create some goal chances and it wouldn’t be very surprising if they had gotten the 3 points there.
Vitória de Setúbal vs Belenenses – Betting Tip and Prediction:
Setúbal has lost their main player and whom Couceiro was depositing his expectation of getting the necessary points to make sure he avoided relegation.
But now, with Gonçalo Paciência heading to Porto, all he has left is João Amaral and the veteran Edinho to feed the team’s aspirations about avoiding relegation from the top tier of Portuguese football.
This might be 3rd time lucky for Silas, if he gets his first win in charge of Belenenses on this match,
which would start the path towards conquering the necessary points to avoid relegation and maybe something more, so I believe on a win for Belenenses here, in Setúbal.
