We will have a matchup that, despite putting two of the worst teams in this competition facing off,
should end up being interesting, since it should be well balanced, due to the low quality of both teams in this case.
Of these two, only Colombia was able to get a win in this competition already, and in really surprising fashion, by beating the Virgin Islands, which was something that no one expected.
Venezuela is an improving National team in terms of basketball. A big proof of that was their fantastic FIBA Americas title, over other national teams with exceptional quality such as Canada and Mexico. However, that was on the men’s side.
On the women department, that improvement is much smaller yet, with many semi-professional players and young athletes, there isn’t a big margin for improvement, so it is hard to get good results.
This is a team with defensive shortcomings but offensively they also aren’t very prone to putting up big scores. 138, 134 and 132 were the lines of their matches so far.
This Colombia team is totally unfamiliar to me. In fact, I don’t really understand their results. They weren’t favourites going into the match vs the Virgin Islands, and they ended up beating them. Then, they lost the other matches, but even then, in most of those matches, they lost by slim margins.
They are a team with a lot of offensive problems, but they can compensate a bit on defence, since they aren’t too bad. Their matches had 133, 117 and 115 points scored.
Venezuela vs Colombia Pick:
This will be a match with a “surprise” element, truth be told. In theory, Venezuela should dominate this encounter. However, their inconsistency on recent matches, leaves this one wide open. Due to the balance between both sides, I believe that we will witness a low scoring match.
