Tomas Berdych is a Czech 31-year-old player that sits in the 18th spot of the ATP Rankings
Tomas Berdych: Berdych is an offensive player, a player that likes to attack with his forehand and that also has a strong serve, that can have a big impact on a match.
Berdych hasn’t won any tournament this year and his results have been slightly worse this season, although he is still a competitive player, having reached the Wimbledon semi-finals for example.
He arrives in the US Open fresh, since he didn’t play in Montreal, due to a slight injury, and due to his 1st round loss in Cincinnati, against Del Potro in 3 sets.
Last year he missed this tournament due to an injury, so he might benefit from that here, to climb a few spots on the ATP Rankings.
Ryan Harrison: The American 25-year-old player currently sits on the 45th position of the ATP Rankings.
Harrison is a fast surface player. He likes to play aggressive and attacking without having long ball exchanges from the baseline.
Harrison was able to cement himself on the Top 100 and at the moment he is even inside the Top 50.
His season has been good. On this return to hard courts, his highlight was reaching the final at ATP Atlanta, where he lost to John Isner. After that, his level dropped a bit and he didn’t do anything special.
Last year he reached the 3rd round here, after going through qualifying, so he will have that result to defend now.
Head to head: 3-0 Berdych
Tomas Berdych vs Ryan Harrison Betting Tip and Prediction:
It wasn’t a good draw for Ryan Harrison, especially since he had last year’s 3rd round to defend here. He will face a Czech that is a better player, with a lot more quality than him.
The experienced Czech is also fresh, since he didn’t play that many matches these past few weeks and I believe he will have a strong start here, being able to beat Ryan Harrison in 3 sets.
I admit there has been some close sets against Harrison, where the American was able to cause Berdych some issues, but the Czech is clearly superior and if he wants to go far in this US Open, it’s usually recommended to win these first rounds in 3 sets.
Without Djokovic, Raonic, Wawrinka, Nishikori and some other big names, this Grand Slam is wide open to a lot of players and Berdych still has the ambition to win a Grand Slam.
This way, I’m backing the Czech to have a good start here, and I’m hoping for a 3-set win over Ryan Harrison.
