Switzerland vs Hungary – 2018 World Cup Qualification: The Swiss go into this match with the clear objective of securing their 1st place
At least until their last round affair with Portugal. This will be a test where the Swiss can’t fail, otherwise they might be forced to win in Portugal.
Switzerland took advantage of the 1st match of the group where they hosted and beat the Portuguese 2-0 on a match where Portugal was still ecstatic about their Euro 2016 title in France.
On that match, Cristiano Ronaldo and Quaresma didn’t play and Portugal resented a bit, but it was a deserved win for the Swiss.
On this qualification stage, the Swiss have won every match so far and a lot of times without playing attractive football, but being efficient. That’s how they’ve beaten Hungary for example.
Hungary attended Euro 2016 where they have even done well and got through to the round of 16. However, on this qualification stage, they have been very poor and they have shown a lot of weaknesses.
They have one or two interesting players but they are a team with a lot of struggles and they couldn’t produce the same level they’ve shown at Euro 2016.
The Hungarians have made a lot of mistakes in this group and they don’t have any chance of still qualifying for the World Cup.
A National team that loses to Andorra for example, can’t aspire to achieve much.
They will play against Switzerland with some important absences of players who got sent-off and got yellow-carded when they were already at risk on the match against Portugal, which they’ve lost 1-0 at home.
Switzerland vs Hungary – Betting Tip and Prediction:
Switzerland’s team has their final test here before playing in Portugal and sincerely, I don’t see them faltering here.
Hungary is a weaker team.
Despite having some decent players, they simply didn’t work well as a team on this qualification stage and they are already eliminated.
It would be nice for the Portuguese if the Hungarians could help them out, but Switzerland has been very regular and consistent in this group, being able to defend their 1st place.
Now, on their last match before facing Portugal, I expect a good win from them, as a way to travel to Portugal with confidence, to defend their 1st place in the group and then ensure their presence on the 2018 World Cup.
Switzerland will win this match.
