Swansea barely managed to stay up and avoid relegation to the Championship last season
Swansea City: After the first half of the season, the Swans seemed destined to be relegated to the Championship, but after a great second half of the season, they were able to escape narrowly.
They used to concede a lot of goals, but they were able to correct their defensive process and, along with their attacking efficiency, their results improved. However, the team has now lost two of their key players: Jack Cork and, especially, the Icelandic Gylfi Sigurdsson.
They didn’t spend much in this transfer window, but they hired Roque Mesa, from Las Palmas, which was their biggest signing.
Their pre-season went relatively well. On their first match in this Premier League’s season, they drew 0-0 away at Southampton, which was an unfair result, since they got dominated, but that is how football works sometimes.
Manchester United: José Mourinho’s team, who won the League Cup and the Europa League last season, is aiming for more this season, especially that Premier League title, which is a title they haven’t won for a few years.
Manchester has a strong roster, and they practically haven’t lost any of their key players, with the only one maybe being Wayne Rooney.
However, Rooney was losing his prominence ever since Mourinho entered the club. Also, Januzaj, their winger, departed, but he was rarely an option for the starting line-up.
I should also highlight the signings of Lukaku, Matic and Lindelof, who bring more balance to this United side.
They have lost the European Supercup to Real Madrid, in a 2-1 deserved loss. However, they started this Premier League well, beating West Ham at home 4-0.
2 of those 4 goals were scored by Romelu Lukaku, who is already showing his value. The other goals were scored by Pogba, who now has the objective to perform better, due to the high value of his transfer fee, and Martial.
Swansea vs Manchester United Pick:
Manchester United will win this match and rise to the top of the table, eventually along the other teams who can also achieve 6 points in these first 2 matches.
Mourinho knows the importance of these matches, and won’t let them slip up this early.
I expect a good start of the season to this Manchester club, just like they did last season, where they started off with 9 points in 3 matches played.
However, after that, we had the Manchester derby, which they lost, and things crumbled for the Red Devils.
Swansea had a poor exhibition at Southampton, and they were very lucky to come out of that match without any goal conceded, and 1 point in the bag.
With Lukaku, Pogba and the rest of the team inspired, it will be very tough for Swansea to sustain United’s offensive avalanche.
