Sporting vs Famalicão – Taça de Portugal : The round of 16 of the Taça de Portugal begins this Thursday night…
With Sporting hosting Famalicão at Estádio de Alvalade.
Sporting comes into this stage of the competition after having eliminated Oleiros 4-2 on the previous round. In the league they are in 2nd place, 4 points behind the leaders FC Porto.
Their performance on the Champions’ League group stage hasn’t been embarrassing, since they are on course to hit their obligation which is at least ensuring the access to the Europa League
and then leaving a good impression against Barcelona and Juventus, something they were able to do despite the results.
For this tie against Famalicão, Jorge Jesus has stated that the players are alerted not to ease up especially on this type of competition, where surprises are common.
On the side of the Lions, William, Mathieu, Fábio Coentrão, Acuña, Doumbia and Piccini shouldn’t be called up considering that some of them are returning form injury while some are still worn out from the International duties.
Famalicão occupies the 5th place on the Portuguese 2nd tier with 23 points, 4 points behind leaders Académico de Viseu.
The visiting side is having a good first third of the season, only getting 2 losses on the 13 matches played so far.
This will be the third time that Famalicão plays as visitor on this Taça de Portugal, after eliminating Coimbrões (1-3) and Alta de Lisboa (0-2) on the previous rounds.
For the trip to Alvalade, the manager Dito will have all his best players at his disposal.
Sporting vs Famalicão – Betting Tip and Prediction:
Despite having a good campaign so far in Segunda Liga, Famalicão tends to play poorly in the 1st half, since they’ve only had the advantage at half-time in 3 out of the 13 matches they played in the league.
I believe that the Lions’ favouritism can be confirmed in the first 45 minutes of the match then, even more because they have Champions League next week,
so, playing in Alvalade, they will want to break the deadlock as soon as possible.
