The Czechs who have returned to the domestic titles on the Czech league have regained some of their lost reputation and have set up a good squad.
They have the ambition to reach the Champions League’s group stage, which is something that they haven’t done for a long time.
Slavia Praha: Slavia has already played in the previous round of this qualification stage where they have eliminated BATE Borisov, with a 1-0 win at home and a 2-1 loss away, going through thanks to the goal scored away from home.
In Cyprus, they have lost 2-0 thanks to a terrible start in that match, where they have conceded twice in the 1st 10 minutes.
That poor result shook them and they have drawn 0-0 against Bohemians this weekend in the Czech league, and they are already some points behind the 1st place, Viktoria Plzen.
APOEL: the Cypriots have failed to qualify for the Champions league last season after getting knocked out by Copenhagen in the play-off, in what was a very close affair.
This season they have already eliminated Dudelange, winning both matches, and then Romanian champion Viitorul, with a 1-0 loss away and a 1-0 win at home, which forced them to go into extra time (4-0 final result).
In this play-off, they have started out very strong with a good game dynamic and they were already 2-0 up against Slavia after 10 minutes in the 1st leg at home.
Then they held on to that lead until the end, showing good defensive consistency.
Now in Czech Republic they will try to hold on to their advantage using their good ability to defend and to play with a deeper line.
Slavia Praha vs APOEL Pick:
Slavia will struggle to get through the defensive wall from the Cypriots who are a good defensive team and very cohesive in their defensive process. Naturally, and because of their disadvantage,
Slavia will be forced to play offensively, looking to spread out their players and looking to create chances, while APOEL will play in a more defensive fashion trying to explore the counter-attacks.
The 1st half shouldn’t have any goals, or if it does, it should be 1 at most. I don’t see Slavia scoring twice or scoring once and conceding in the first 45 minutes.
I fancy this Under 1.5 Goals at Half-Time, that should be a winning bet thanks to the defensive solidity of APOEL.
