Roger Federer is a Swiss 36-year-old tennis player, that is currently ranked 3rd in the ATP Rankings.
Federer is a complete player, who does well on every surface. He has been having a practically perfect season so far, with 35 wins and only 3 losses.
He won the Australian Open, Wimbledon, Miami Masters, ATP Indian Wells and ATP Halle.
After Wimbledon, he returned to play at Montreal Masters, where he lost to Alexander Zverev in the final. The Swiss has felt a back injury in that final and he had to withdraw from the tournament, in order to play in this US Open.
Francis Tiafoe is a North-American 19-year-old player that is currently ranked 70th on the ATP Rankings.
He reached his best career ranking in July (No. 60). Just like most of the other American players, he is a player that does well on fast surfaces, but he also likes to play on clay.
He is an offensive player, with a good serve and forehand. He also has good movement inside the court.
Last season, he won 2 challengers: Aix en Provence and Sarasota. His last tournament was Cincinnati Masters, where he lost in the 3rd round to John Isner.
Roger Federer vs Francis Tiafoe Betting Tip and Prediction:
Head-to-head 1-0 Federer
The only match these two played was at this season’s Miami Masters. Federer won in straight sets 7-6(2) 6-3.
Federer doesn’t need any presentations. He is a brilliant player that arrives as a big favourite to win this US Open.
However, there are some doubts regarding his physical conditions, since he wasn’t at 100% in Montreal.
I’m going with the Handicap favouring the American in this match. Tiafoe is young and still has a lot to improve.
He has a good serve and should be motivated, since he is playing at home and will play on the centre court. In Miami, he was able to keep the match close and I believe that may happen again.
What makes this a risky bet is the fact that Tiafoe is a very inconsistent player that sometimes can get lost.
On the other hand, when Federer has the advantage, he usually just controls the advantage and manages it, he doesn’t really try to get a double break advantage for example.
With that said, I’m going with the +8.5 Games Handicap for Tiafoe.
