Midfielder Renato Sanches already has a new club to continue his career on.
And the club chosen was a big surprise for the sporting press: it’s Swansea City from the Premier League.
Everyone expected Renato to go onto one of the big European giants. Clearly, he didn’t fit in at Bayern and he needed some fresh air.
Clubs like Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Monaco and Liverpool had shown interest in the player, but no team reached an agreement with the German club.
The Portuguese has showed himself on Benfica as one of the hottest prospects in world football last season. He was a constant presence on the National team’s call-ups and he quickly gained an important statute in the market.
Giant Bayern München quickly hired the player for 35 Million Euros from Benfica. The big problem was that he didn’t adapt so well in Germany.
Sanches was even subject of jokes in Portugal, because of the fact that he was always in the bench at Bayern. Last season he only played 25 matches for the team, and he didn’t score a single goal.
The Portuguese will now play in the Premier League
Obviously, his season was affected by Bayern’s performance too, which was far from ideal. In any way, if Sanches wanted to play, he needed to leave.
The surprise here is that he will head to England. And, moreover, to Swansea. Not to a big Premier League club but to “modest” Swansea. He will be loaned for a year.
The team’s manager Paul Clement, who was an assistant manager at Bayern in the past, is the main responsible for this transfer, because he already knows Renato Sanches. The value of the loan is around 2 Million Euros for this 1-year period.
It can be a weird choice to trade Bayern for Swansea. But at the English club, Renato will have visibility and the chance to show himself, which is something he didn’t had in Germany.
Imagining another season on the bench served as an incentive for Sanches to head to England
