Rafael Nadal is a Spanish 31-year-old tennis player and he occupies the No.1 position in the ATP Rankings.
He won in the 1st round against Dusan Lajovic in straight sets, although it wasn’t easy, since in the 1st set the Serbian was serving for the set at *5-4.
In fact, that was the only match he won without dropping a set so far in this US Open. Against the Japanese Taro Daniel and on the last match against the Argentinian Leonardo Mayer.
Nadal lost the first set and had to come from behind to win those matches. On those matches he also had tons of break points, but he wasn’t able to take most of them, failing in those crucial moments.
R128 W Dusan Lajovic 7-6(6) 6-2 6-2
R64 W Taro Daniel 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-2
R32 W Leonardo Mayer 6-7(3) 6-3 6-1 6-4
Alexandr Dolgopolov is a Ukrainian 28-year-old player that is currently 64th in the ATP Rankings. He reached No.13 on the ATP Rankings in 2013, but then he has been decaying.
He is a talented player and usually gets good results when he is focused and in good shape physically.
He has been having a good tournament so far, only struggling in the 1st round, where he went to a 5th set against the German Struff. After that, he breezed through Troicki and surprised Tomas Berdych with his strong 1st serve, which is making a real difference here at the US Open.
R128 W Jan-Lennard Struff 3-6 6-3 6-2 1-6 6-3
R64 W Tomas Berdych 3-6 6-1 7-6(5) 6-2
R32 W Viktor Troicki 6-1 6-0 6-4
Rafael Nadal vs Alexandr Dolgopolov – Betting Tip and Prediction:
Head-to-head: 6-2 Nadal
Last meeting: This season in Brisbane, with Nadal winning 6-3 6-3.
Nadal’s biggest problem has been his poor start in these matches. He seems switched off and has been making a lot of mistakes in important moments of the sets, like break points.
After that, no lower-quality opponent has been able to keep up with the Spaniard’s rhythm and they end up being defeated with some ease.
Dolgopolov has already done a lot in this tournament and I doubt he can surprise here.
The Ukrainian doesn’t have tennis, brains, let alone physical condition to keep up with the high pace of Nadal, a player who always returns the extra ball and demands a lot from his opponents.
Here on this match I’m fancying that Nadal will start strong from the start and breeze through Dolgopolov in straight sets.
