Rafael dos Anjos vs Colby Covington – UFC 225: The Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos faces
the North-American Colby Covington on the UFC 225.
This will be a fight for the interim title of the UFC Welterweight category. Whoever wins here will then unify the belt with Tyron Woodley’s.
It’s worth reminding that Rafael dos Anjos has the opportunity of being champion of two different weight classes of this organization. And there aren’t many fighters that are able to do that.
Dos Anjos was already the UFC Lightweight Champion in 2015. On that category, his reign wasn’t very long. After winning against Pettis, he defended the belt against Donald Cerrone but then lost against Eddie Alvarez and lost his title.
Then. another loss to the ascending Tony Ferguson that made dos Anjos migrate to the weight category above due to the increasing difficulties he was having to cut weight. And Rafael dos Anjos was reborn at Welterweight.
He stringed together 3 victories on the category over Saffedine, Magny and Lawler, the former Welterweight champion. The last two were amongst the top 10 of the category.
With the name and the career he had and with these wins, Dos Anjos quickly got his shot at the title, although it is at the interim. Colby Covington is the new trash-talker in the UFC, knowing how to use his tongue as well as he uses his hands.
The American is coming off a streak of 5 consecutive victories. On his record, Colby Covington has a record of 13 victories and 1 loss. Amongst his victories, he has 2 knockouts, 5 finishes and 6 decisions.
Rafael dos Anjos vs Colby Covington – Betting Tip and Prediction:
Dos Anjos proved that it is always possible to evolve as a fighter when we look into his career. The Brazilian started out as a simple grappler, having a very developed BJJ and his last 9 career finishes don’t let me lie.
But he was improving, developing his strikes and becoming a more and more aggressive fighter. On the other hand, Colby Covington is a wrestling specialist and a fighter that is evolving within the UFC.
But analyzing his career, he has only faced opponents clearly weaker than Dos Anjos. But he is a fighter that has 8 victories and 1 loss inside the organization, inclusively with a great win over Demian Maia.
I believe that Dos Anjos will have difficulties against the wrestling of the American. But globally, I see him being the better fighter here and with more weapons to win.
