This Wednesday, in a match of the 17th matchday of the Brazilian Serie A
This Wednesday, in a match counting for the 17th matchday of the Brazilian Serie A, Ponte Preta will host Fluminense, at 20:00 (local time), at Campinas (SP) in the Estádio Moisés Lucarelli.
PONTE PRETA: This is a postponed match that will close out this 1st half of the season.
On their last match, Ponte Preta drew 0-0 at home against Vasco da Gama, which left them in 15th place with 22 points, just 3 behind their opponents here, Fluminense.
During this first half of the season, the team was really inconsistent, putting together great exhibitions but also some pretty terrible ones.
For this match, manager Gilson Kleina will not count with defender Rodrigo, who is suspended, and midfielder Renato Cajá, who is injured. The rest of the team shouldn’t change much compared to their last outing.
FLUMINENSE: This match was postponed due to the tragedy that plagued manager Abel Braga’s son. The manager has been getting comforted by everyone in this tough moment.
The team from Rio de Janeiro has won their last match, 3-1 at home against Atlético-GO, a result that left them in 10th place with 25 points.
A victory here however, would make them jump up to 6th place, which would leave them in a qualification spot (G6) for the Copa Libertadores.
For this encounter and for the rest of their campaign, manager Abel Braga can not count with attacking midfielder Marquinhos Calazans, who suffered an injury in their last match and will go through surgery, so he won’t be able to play anymore this season.
Ponte Preta vs Fluminense Pick :
Final Thoughts: I believe this has all the potential to be a great game despite the players who are missing for both sides, since I believe that their offensive quality will be enough, and I think that both will play to win, and not settle for a draw.
Since they play at home, Ponte Preta are slight favourites here and despite Fluminense being higher than them in the league table, they have been suffering lately with missing players and players that they have been selling.
Still, Fluminense has some real chances of winning as well, so my pick for this match will have to be an over 2.5.
