For those who believed that Neymar’s transfer would be the biggest ever so far, and the biggest of the season, we might have some news still in 2017.

And the news is coming from Barcelona as well, since Barça might be about to lose the best player in the club’s history and one of the best football players in the planet.

Manchester City is willing to pay Lionel Messi’s release clause to sign the Argentinian player. Several rumours are shaping up, which might mean that the transfer is coming soon.

President and club owner Khaldoon Al Mubarak stated that Manchester City can break the transfer record with a bombastic signing until the last day of the current transfer window.

Another indicator that this might happens is the fact that Messi has stopped his contract renewal with Barcelona. Everything was seemingly agreed but the Argentinian stepped back.

Barcelona’s vice-president Jordi Mestre has confirmed that Messi and Barcelona haven’t signed his contract extension yet but he remains confident on his permanence. However, the same Jordi Mestre has claimed that Neymar was 200% confirmed at Barcelona:

“We have talked and agreed. We are waiting to set the date for the renewal. It is all agreed, all we need to do now is sign it.”

It is no novelty that Messi has been unhappy with the paths Barcelona has chosen.

He believes that the team isn’t strong enough to keep him in the spotlight in order for him to win important titles both individually and as a team.

Neymar’s departure was a rough blow on the MSN trio and it has weakened Barcelona.

Their doubtful recent signings of Semedo and Paulinho also failed to convince the Argentinian.

On Manchester City, Messi might reunite with Pep Guardiola, which was his manager during the best period of his career at Barcelona, where they every possible title.

It is not a secret for anyone that Manchester City’s dream is getting Lionel Messi. The club believes that he can be the missing element that the team needs in order to achieve success on higher flights.

If Messi ends up leaving, this season is starting to become a tragedy for Barcelona, who might lose 2 of their best players in the same month.
