Tottenham’s new manager only started working yesterday, but everything suggests that he has already identified several targets for the future, with the intent of reinforcing his new roster. Amongst some others, Bruno Fernandes seems to be one of the fresh faces about to join the club from United Kingdom.
Reinforcing offensive midfield
One of the current holes on Spurs’ roster has been the intermediate sector in terms of creation, namely behind the attackers. Christian Eriksen is leaving the club and has been an intermittent option. Dele Alli is more of an attacker than a midfielder and both Lucas Moura and Heung-Min Son follow that trend.
This way, Giovani Lo Celso will be one of the few current options and judging by the utilization time of the Argentinian under the command of Mauricio Pochettino, it is likely that he isn’t exactly untouchable on that area of the pitch.
Consequently, it seems like José Mourinho has identified two targets for that attacking midfielder position with Paulo Dybala, from Juventus, standing out on the top of the shopping list of the Portuguese manager.
Juventus’ Argentinian attacker has been making a good start to the season on Italy, although he continues not to be a common denominator on the club’s starting line-up, which means there might be a real chance of snatching the talented player from the Italian champions.
The other option for this area of the pitch is the Portuguese Bruno Fernandes from Sporting. After the English club saw Sporting reject an offer for the player during the transfer window, the arrival of José Mourinho should rekindle this interest, and the value of the proposal should increase with the intent of ensuring the services of one of the most productive midfielders in European football.
The defensive sector also needs acquisitions
Tottenham has been operating very few changes on their defensive sector over the course of the past couple of seasons, maintaining themselves relatively faithful to players like Alderweireld, Vertonghen or Eric Dier, but Mou doesn’t seem exactly content with this defensive line and he is already eyeing the powerful Napoli’s central defender Kalidou Koulibaly as an excellent alternative to offer a different kind of dimension to the central area of the defence.
Besides that, the club sold Kieran Trippier to Atlético de Madrid on the pre-season and Serge Aurier doesn’t seem to offer a lot of insurances on the right side of defence, which means the Algerian Youcef Atal from Nice can be the other option on the shopping list of the Portuguese manager for the near future.
I also highlight Declan Rice from West Ham that can play as a defensive midfielder and central defender, being therefore, rumoured to be a potential signing for the club soon.
The list keeps on increasing as time goes by
If the 5 players named above are the ones with stronger possibilities of joining the club, it is also true that other names keep appearing as time goes by.
The Welsh winger has been going through hell in Real Madrid for the past season and a half, getting involved in several scandals that only worsen his poor relationship with teammates, technical staff, fans and press.
It seems like their return to square one, at a time where Tottenham is ambitioning higher flights, could be beneficial for both sides.

But Bruno Fernandes isn’t the only Portuguese player on the putative list of José Mourinho when it comes to potential signings.
Lately, there has also been the rumour that Rúben Dias, Benfica’s central defender, can also be one of the alternatives of the Portuguese manager for the center of defence.
Becoming more and more solidified as leader of Benfica’s defence and with the status of starter in the national team perfectly secured, Rúben can be an element that brings stabilization to the Spurs’ defensive line.
United’s renegades also on the horizon
Having left Manchester United about a year ago, it is normal that Mourinho has some players of that club that he recently managed on his sights.
Nemanja Matic isn’t being an option for the Red Devils lately and he was always one of Mourinho’s favourites, that gave him good use on Chelsea and then brought him to Manchester United.
But the youngster Diogo Dalot and the central defender Eric Bailly are also players liked by the Portuguese manager and if there is the possibility of hiring them, I believe that Mourinho won’t say no to that, even because those are two players that he knows well.
