Two generations of tennis will clash in this 2nd round of the US Open.
The experience and expertise of the French player Tsonga against the newest sensation of the ATP Circuit Denis Shapovalov. The young 18-year-old Canadian has made his triumphant debut in the world circuit this season.
Of course, he was already being successful in previous stages of his career. He had already been junior champion at Wimbledon but he has also caused some upsets on Challenger tournaments against much more experienced players.
In 2017 alone, he had already won titles in Drummondville and Gatineau, reached the final in Guadalajara and reached the semi-final in Grandby. But it was on grass that he started to cause some upsets and scaring the big players.
At Queens, he reached the round of 16 after going through qualifying and made life hard for Berdych. On the American hard courts phase, he was on fire.
He reached the semi-final at Montreal Masters, eliminating Del Potro and Nadal in the process. On this US Open he also got through the qualifying stage and then he beat Medvedev on the 1st round 3-0.
Tsonga is a much more experienced player. He has won a lot of titles and he is a cemented figure in the ATP Top 10 for a few years now.
The French always had a very aggressive style, with a lot of serve & volleys, which always generated some nostalgia to this style’s fans.
Sure, we could question if Tsonga has fulfilled the expectations the people had on him. I think not.
Despite his victorious career, many expected him to achieve great things. Today he has 32 years of age and he was never able to reach a Grand Slam final for example.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga VS Denis Shapovalov – Betting Tip and Prediction:
But the problem is when he faces the big players.
On these early rounds, Tsonga usually does well. The problem here is that young Shapovalov is on fire at the moment.
It doesn’t matter who the young Canadian is facing, the match will be 50/50 now. And Tsonga has been inconsistent, to say the least.
On the hard courts season, he has been terrible. I expect a long match, with both players winning at least a set, so I’m taking Over 3.5 Sets.
