On the last qualification round before the Europa League’s group stage.
The Icelandic title winners and the Portuguese Liga NOS’s 5th place will face off, in what will be the first match ever between these two teams. They will then play the 2nd leg at Braga, in Portugal.
Hafnardfjordur: The Icelandic champions go into this match with several matches played already, after competing for several months (the Iceland League has had 15 matchdays so far).
On the European competitions, the team has already played 4 matches in the Champions League’s qualifying rounds, arriving here after being eliminated by Maribor, despite having beaten Vikingur previously (3-1 on aggregate).
The Portuguese team Braga arrives here after eliminating, with some difficulty, AIK on the last round, where they needed extra time to send them packing.
The team is going to play their 5th official match this season, after getting their first league win on their last match against Portimonense, despite some difficulties.
For this match, Abel won’t be able to count with Marafona, who is unavailable. Wilson Eduardo is still doubtful.
Hafnardfjordur vs Braga Pick:
Looking to the Icelanders recent records at home, namely in their stadium, they tend to have low-scoring matches (for example, on their last 6 matches, only one of them finished with 3 goals or more); the remaining ones finished with 1 or 2, at most).
Adding that to the fact that Braga is still very fresh and immature in this new season (and that shows perfectly, which is normal, considering the renovation they promoted on their roster).
I believe this match won’t have a lot of goals as well, and I think that this tie can be settled only at Braga, just like it happened in Braga’s last tie.
