Gremio vs Lanus – Libertadores : Grêmio hosts Lanús this Wednesday on the 1st leg match of the 2017 Copa Libertadores’ final…
The match will be played at Arena do Grêmio, in Porto Alegre.
This is the most important match of the last 10 years for Grêmio, coming from a title last season, they already broke their title drought, but this season they have set up a really good team, maybe the best one of the last two decades.
They deserve credit for reaching here. On the group stage, they got easy opponents, advancing easily against Guarani, Iquique and Zamora.
On the round of 16, they showed their superiority by winning the two matches against the Argentinian Godoy Cruz, and then they got a tough opponent in the quarter-finals.
They drew Botafogo and, with some difficulties, got a 1-0 on the 2nd leg that has ensured their qualification. On the semi-finals, they strolled in Guayaquil, crushing Barcelona by a 3-0 score line that could easily be 5-0.
They come into this match with the full roster available. The team had been playing with the reserves in the league, and they have the home advantage to get in front of this tie.
The Argentinian team has also shown strength on the latter stages of the Libertadores, but let’s take it back to the group stage.
They were the best placed team amongst the 16 teams that advanced from the group stage, but that only happened after their loss to Chapecoense was reversed due to an error with the registration of the Brazilian team.
The group, besides Chape, had Nacional and Zulia, which means they also had a very weak group.
On the round of 16, they had a tough encounter against The Strongest, which they won thanks to a hard-earned victory in the 2nd leg by
On the quarter-finals, they had a local encounter, losing the 1st leg 2-0 to San Lorenzo, and then reversing the score line in La Fortaleza, beating them on penalties.
And to end the doubts regarding their strength, they eliminated the powerful River Plate, after being 0-2 down on the 2nd leg, they came back to 4-2, achieving an epic qualification.
Gremio vs Lanus – Betting Tip and Prediction:
This is a very tough match. A final can never be considered a bargain. Grêmio is better, yes, but they will face some difficulties because I think that Lanús’ posture should be extremely defensive.
Since away goals don’t matter, I hope Grêmio to attack without fear, because a goal conceded at home isn’t that disastrous as long as they still win the match.
Lanús is a team that uses a lot of their physical strength, doesn’t have a lot of speed, knows how to move the ball well,
but doesn’t have in the counter-attack their best weapon, so they should be stronger in the 2nd leg, when they should be more aggressive.
Another deciding factor is the Argentinians’ away record on this Libertadores, where they have 1 draw and 2 losses on these latter stages, precisely because they can’t be so aggressive like they are at La Fortaleza.
I really believe on a Grêmio’s win, and I think they have a good chance to go into the 2nd leg with a bigger advantage.
