Fenerbahce are a team with good experience in the European context, since they have played both in the Champions League and the Europa League.
Fenerbahce: On the last few years though, they have played more in the Europa League, because they weren’t able to win the Turkish title and in the Champions’ League play-offs.
This year, their entry on the Europa League’s group stage is clearly in danger after their 2-0 away loss at Vardar in the 1st leg.
They are the favourites for this match, but the tie should be hard to come back from, although perfectly possible, since they have more quality than the Macedonian champions.
This season, Fenerbahce banked on the signings of Valbuena and Soldado to renew their squad who still has players such as Robin Van Persie, Souza and Skrtel. In the league, they didn’t get a good start either, with 2 draws in 2 matches played so far, both 2-2.
Vardar are the Macedonian champions and they have been a pleasant surprise in this qualifying stage.
I should also mention that this team arrived here from the Champions’ League qualifying rounds, where they have eliminated Malmo before being eliminated by Copenhagen, despite winning at home against the Danes.
Still they left a very good impression. In the 1st leg of this tie they have beaten Fenerbahce 2-0 on a match where they fought hard and knew how to suffer as a team.
They have played with only 10 men in the final minutes but, on a very ridiculous play, Vardar eventually scored their 2nd goal of the match thanks to an own-goal from Topal already after the 90 minutes.
Their objective is now clear, going through to the next stage and reaching the Europa League’s group stage. After their 2-0 win at home, that ambition is valid and very achievable.
Fenerbahce vs Vardar Betting Tip:
Fenerbahce will give everything they have on this match against Vardar, and will definitely field their strongest 11.
It is expected a lot of offensive dynamic from the Turks who are 2 goals behind in this play-off and need to reverse this tie against an opponent they haven’t respected enough.
Vardar will be a tough task for them to overcome, surely. However, the Macedonian side will struggle in Turkey. I believe that Fenerbahce can get the goal still in the 1st half and go into half-time leading the match.
They need to go for it because of the 2-0 disadvantage and I seem them scoring and fighting for the access to group stage.
This is probably my most confident bet on these Europa League matches. If they aren’t winning at half-time, I really doubt they manage to advance to the group stage.
