Dortmund vs Atalanta: In one of the several matches taking place this Thursday, counting towards the Europa League’s round of 32.
The local side Borussia Dortmund and the visiting side Atalanta face off in the city of Dortmund, at the Signal Iduna Park, on a match between two teams that will face for the first time in their history, officially.
The home side comes into this match with a huge list of injuries (about one third of their roster is facing physical problems), while the Italians won’t be able to count with Caldara, Gomez and Rizzo.
The home side is making a very inconsistent campaign so far, although they have improved significantly with Peter Stoger in charge, despite no longer having many chances of recovering this already disastrous season on several levels, namely in terms of managing their players’ physical condition.
The team had a terrible showing in the Champions League, dropping to the Europa League, and they have an extremely complicated opponent here, that has won their group easily beating historical clubs like Everton and Lyon.
As for the Italians, they are making another remarkable campaign on every level, being on an epic path on the European stage and making a good campaign domestically.
Coming off a globally positive streak of results, only losing to Juventus and Napoli on the last 7 matches they’ve played.
Curiously, at least on their latest couple of matches, they have a better record away from home than at home, winning in Rome and Naples for example.
Borussia Dortmund vs Atalanta – Betting Tip and Prediction:
On the 1st leg of a knockout tie, I believe we will have a close match with less goals than it maybe would be expected.
While Atalanta plays with a typically Italian style, Dortmund has improved a little bit defensively with Stoger, which leads me to believe this will be a closer match.
