Daria Kasatkina is a Russian 20-year-old player that is currently 38th in the WTA Rankings.
Kasatkina is an aggressive player, with talent and she will surely reach the WTA’s top 10 in the future. She has good tennis and she reaching this stage is not a surprise for me, due to the good exhibitions she’s been having in this Grand Slam.
Kasatkina plays well in every surface and despite reaching this tournament without any big results in the past weeks, she showed up strong and defeated Qiang Wang in 3 sets, after losing the first, and then both Christina McHale and Roland Garros’ winner Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets.
Against Ostapenko she started to lose 0-3 but then she completely dominated the match beyond that point. Kasatkina has no points to defend here, so she’s playing with no pressure.
Kaia Kanepi is an Estonian 32-year-old player that is currently in the 418th position of the WTA Rankings.
Kanepi is a very experienced player but some injuries have placed her in this position in the Rankings since she didn’t compete for a long time.
She is still a quality player and with the ability to return to a better position in the Rankings. She is a player that serves well, likes to have the initiative on every point and to control her shots.
Kanepi got through the qualifying, where she has won 3 games, one of which in 3 sets.
In the main draw, she has beaten Schiavone in 3 sets, where she curiously lost the 1st one 6-0 but then came back. After that, she faced Wickmayer, beating her in 2 sets and then Naomi Osaka, in 3 sets. This has been a great campaign for her, after reaching the 2nd round here last season.
Daria Kasatkina vs Kaia Kanepi – Betting Tip and Prediction:
Head-to-head: 1-0 Kasatkina
It will be an interesting encounter between two players who like to take the initiative and play the points from the baseline.
I’m going with Kasatkina here, because she has more ability to accelerate and I believe that, with the way she’s been playing, she will be able to beat Kanepi.
Who after 6 matches won, since she had to go through qualifying, might start to feel some fatigue, because she hadn’t competed at this level and won so many matches in a short space of time for a while.
I see the Russian prevailing here and moving on to the next round in this Grand Slam.
