The Danish side Copenhagen is looking to return to the Champions League’s group stage after leaving a good impression on that same stage last season.
Copenhagen: They have an interesting roster and, despite losing two important players, they have kept the core of the team. What they haven’t maintained is their exhibition quality, being more inconsistent now.
They have already played 2 qualifying rounds prior to this one, where they eliminated Zilina with a 3-1 win away from home and a 2-1 loss at home, and Vardar, from Macedonia, with a 1-0 loss away but a 4-1 win at home in the 2nd leg.
Now they have lost again in the 1st leg, away from home, 1-0 in Azerbaijan, so they will, once again, have to reverse the tie in order to go through.
On their domestic league things aren’t looking to bright for the Danish giants, since they won their last match 3-2, but only thanks to 2 goals in the final 10 minutes, which made them complete the comeback.
That was a very important victory in order to motivate the team before this crucial European affair.
Qarabag: This team from Azerbaijan is the best one domestically.
They are the current champions and they are a well-organized team, with a good connection between the different sectors and one or two individually skilled players who stand out.
That’s the case of Spanish midfielder Michel and South-African striker Ndiovu. Qarabag is looking to go through to the group stage of the Champions League, after already having knocked out Samtredia and Moldavia’s Sheriff Tiraspol.
Sure, they haven’t faced any big-name teams yet, but they have won at home in their reception to Copenhagen, and they truly deserved that win, since they were the team who had more chances and the one that tried hardest to win.
Copenhagen vs Qarabag Pick:
Copenhagen will have their last test/challenge here in order to go into the Champions League’s group stage and despite losing 1-0 in the 1st leg, they are still favourites in my opinion.
Of course, a 1-0 loss away from home is always a dangerous result, because if they end up conceding in this 2nd leg, they are forced to score at least 3, and this Qarabag side defends well and plays really tight, so they are not an easy team to crack.
I expect a match where Copenhagen take control, since they will definitely have their supporters behind them for this match, and they should be motivated after their tough but well fought win on their last match.
I expect a victory from the Danish club on a balanced match. If they go through or not, I don’t know, even because this match can very well end 1-0 and be decided in Extra Time or penalties.
