The Danish Superliga goes into its third matchday and this next Saturday the champions FC Copenhagen host Hobro,
who have just been promoted to the main tier of Danish football this season.
The Champions League match vs Vardar should certainly be on many players’ minds, since the Danish champions were surprised losing away from home and will now need to turn the tie around on their home ground next week.
However, Copenhagen can’t switch off from this league match, despite having this weaker opponent that might allow them to take care of the game quickly and rest some of their key players for the European match.
FC Copenhagen didn’t start very well this Superliga, having drawn the 1st game against Aalborg (1-1).
However, last weekend they reddemed themselves and won convincingly away from home at Randers, beating them 3-0, with two goals from Soteriou and one from Pavlovic. It has been a rocky start of a season regarding European competitions, since Copenhagen are fighting to reach the Group Stage again.
On the last round, they have beaten Zalgiris 4-3 on aggregate, but, after winning away on the 1st leg (1-3), things still got a bit scary since they lost 1-2 at home.
Now on the 3rd qualifying round, they were surprised by the Macedonian side Vardar, a team that had already left their mark by eliminating Malmo. Hankersen, Falk and Hogli will be absent for FC Copenhagen on this match.
Hobro were promoted this season to the Danish Superliga. This is the return of a team that has been an usual presence on this Superliga.
This team was relegated in 2016 but climbed right back up again, returning to their place amongst the better danish sides.
Hobro started their season by beating another newly promoted team, Helsingør. But on the 2nd fixture, they had the first sorrow, when they were beaten at Aarhus’ ground by 2-0.
Now they have another trip, to Denmark’s capital, to face the title holders and the strongest team in the country, FC Copenhagen.
Amankwah and Domoraud are still doubtful for this encounter.
FC Copenhagen vs Hobro pick:
On the encounters between these two teams, Copenhagen have been dominant, winning 4 times and losing twice.
At home, Copenhagen have won 3 times but were beaten once, in 2014, on their first encounter, which ended 0-3 in favor of Hobro.
Although Copenhagen might already be preparing their next match against Vardar.
I believe that this will not be a tough match, and it should end with a victory for the Lions.
