Celta de Vigo vs Athletic Bilbao – La Liga: Unzué is still testing the waters in Vigo, and things are still shaky…
The truth is that Celta hasn’t changed much. The managers come and go but the ideas are identical. The roster is short and they live out of what Iago Aspas can produce.
Celta has the 4th best attack in La Liga but the problem that has been affecting them for a few seasons now is their defence, who already conceded 16 goals after 10 rounds.
Despite the defeat at Málaga, they were able to play well, especially during the 2nd half, where they risked everything to try to score at least one goal. Unzué tried his best but the truth is that he has done poorly, but he was ambitious, not settling for the result but it simply didn’t work out this time, it might work out better on the next attempt.
Bilbao usually didn’t get good starts, not even with Valverde, until the group stage of the European competitions ended and the team started to climb on the league table. With Ziganda, things aren’t looking much different, at least for the first part.
Ziganda is a homegrown man, who played for the club in the 90s next to Urzaiz, Guerreno, Karanka, Goikoetxea, Joseba Etxeberria and Ernesto Valverde and he still coached the B team for six seasons so he is not lacking Basque culture.
The European competitions are also not going very well for them. The roster is, as usual, short, and the rotation of the players must be performed very well. There are some players who are simply irreplaceable, like Aduriz and Balenziaga.
Something that hasn’t helped the Basques much is the injuries of Muniain, who should only return to competition in April after another serious injury, Beñat their experienced set-piece taker who is dealing with a hernia problem and there is no prediction for when he will be able to return.
Celta de Vigo vs Athletic Bilbao – Betting Tip and Prediction:
These are two teams that, in theory, are European competitions’ contenders, although they do have a long path to go through, since the competition is increasing.
Bilbao shouldn’t change much from the starting line-up that they used on Thursday against the Swedes of Ostersunds.
I think that Celta should win this match, with Aspas carrying the team on his shoulders.
Bilbao has been struggling without Beñat. They lose a lot on their passing quality and, of course, on the set pieces, since he was a key element for the team during Valverde’s period.
Celta should do exactly what they did against Málaga. Try to control the ball possession and expect Sisto to break through the Basque defence with a moment of individual brilliance, always with Aspas in sight.
