The citizens, led by Pep Guardiola, kick off their Premier League season this Saturday at 17h30 against recently promoted Brighton
Guardiola’s team is, according to the bookmakers, the main title contender, in front of the current champions Chelsea, and that has a lot to do with the transfer window.
From the goalkeeper Ederson (40M Euros, 2nd most expensive ever, right after Buffon); to 3 wing backs: Walker (51M€), Mendy (57.5M€) and Danilo (30M€); and the essential Bernardo Silva (50M€) make this City the biggest spender so far in England.
Guardiola’s first season ended up being a failure, not winning a single title and only getting the direct invite for the Champions League as a consolation prize for their 3rd place in the league.
Considering this 1st year a learning year, since the Premier League is unique and different from every other, I think Guardiola was able to build the team that he wanted on this 2nd season that is about to start (all he needs now is maybe a striker to compete with Gabriel Jesus and Aguero).
With that said, I believe that on this first match already, Guardiola is looking to send a message to all his contenders and with the team he has available, he has all the weapons to accomplish that.
On their 4 pre-season matches, they’ve won 3, scoring more than 3 goals in every one of them, and they had 1 loss to their rivals Manchester United.
Brighton on the other hand, finished the pre-season with 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss (against Atlético de Madrid where they conceded 3 goals). Playing in a typical British fashion, I don’t fancy an upset on this 1st matchday, especially because I fancy that Brighton will fight not to get relegated.
Brighton vs Manchester City Pick:
Furthermore, I opted to approach this match on the goal market for the home side, the favourite, since it is a team that I enjoy watching, and with good attacking transitions.
They play a modern playstyle with a thousand offensive solutions that can blow up the match with the creativity they enforce inside the pitch, due to their amazing skilled players, especially on the wings.
Therefore, I believe in a City going full steam ahead on the start of this Premier League. This odd was over evens and it really caught my attention, so I’m going with Man City to score 3 or more goals in the match.
