Basel vs CSKA Moscow – UEFA Champions League : In one of the matches of the 4th round of this Champions’ League group stage…
The Swiss champions Basel will host the Russian champions CSKA Moscow in Basel, at the St. Jakob-Park Stadium,
in a match between the 2nd and 3rd places of this group, respectively, who are separated by just 3 points going into this match,
that will probably decide which team will accompany the English men of Manchester United into the next stage of the Champions League.
The hosts, managed by Raphael Wicky, won’t be able to count with Van Wolfswinkel (injured) and still have Vailati doubtful for this encounter.
As for CSKA, Makarov is the only possible absence for this match, since he is still doubtful at the moment.
The Swiss side is having a very good campaign in the Champions League, being able to recover from a horrible start to the season in every aspect and they are now recovering ground in all the competitions they are on.
On the Champions League specifically, they are well on their way to ensure qualification for the next stage, which was seemingly impossible when the draw was revealed.
As for CSKA Moscow, they are having a campaign that can be considered disappointing in my opinion, since they lost,
on the last round, the possibility of at least maintaining themselves, in a balanced and competitive way, in the fight for qualification to the next stage of the competition, when they lost, at home, against the Swiss champions.
In any way, the team, if they are able to win in Switzerland, will be back on the race and get closer to qualifying, despite coming off 2 straight losses against Basel and Man Utd.
Basel vs CSKA Moscow – Betting Tip and Prediction:
In a match that will basically be all or a nothing, both teams are interested in getting a win: on the side of the hosts,
it would ensure they would advance to the next stage, while on the Russians’ side, it would put them back on track on their qualification path.
This way, and considering both teams’ forms coming into this match, I believe in a tight game without many goals if there aren’t any big opportunities during the first 15-30 minutes,
since, in a way, it isn’t worth it for any of the teams to risk too much. This way, I expect a low-scoring affair, especially on the 1st half.
